Teleradiogram (TRG)

What is the TRG

Teleradiography (from Greek. tele — «far away» + grapho — «I write») is a method of remote plain radiography which minimizes the distortion of the projection caused by the physical properties of the X-rays, its special filter allows clear view of both bony structures and soft tissue. As a rule, TRG is used by a doctor for analysis and planning of orthodontic treatment.

What is the procedure of TRG taking?

Filming is performed in straight and lateral projections in the standing position. It is important to choose the right natural position of the patient’s head during the scanning. To avoid any movement during the scanning special plastic supports are inserted in the patient’s ears.

Radiation exposure

Modern equipment for TRG taking (cephalographic devices) is equipped with digital detectors significantly reducing radiation exposure (unlike plain-film technique). Radiation dose received by the patient during the procedure of digital TRG taking equals to 15 — 50 mSv. For comparison, the radiation dose got during lung digital fluorography comes up to 60 mSv.

After filming and completion of image correction performed by the software, the image can be printed (we use special medical printer for printing on film in high resolution) and saved in a digital format (e.g., on CD in JPEG format).
The film and the disc are given into the hands during 10 minutes.
